Information for Faculty

The St. Thomas Bookstore has transitioned from a physical store in Murray Herrick Center and Terrence Murphy Hall to a virtual course material store, managed by Barnes and Noble College Services (BNC). Please note that class materials such as calculators, safety goggles, USB drives, grid paper, etc., can be purchased in the Campus Store and on our Campus Store website. All course materials will be purchased through the web store and be delivered to students at their address of choice or to campus where they can be picked up

BNC has a full team of professionals dedicated to helping colleges get the best course materials at the best prices whether they are print or digital. They also offer Inclusive Access for books to be integrated into Canvas with all the tools needed for success. BNC will be sourcing and shipping all of our course materials.

A virtual webstore will aid the university in many ways. Students will have access to new, used, rental, and e-books all in one place. Faculty and department/program coordinators will have the tools to submit adoptions for future semesters directly to BNC. The bookstore will have support in sourcing all the university’s textbooks in the most efficient and cost-effective way. Last year, over 87% of bookstore orders came online!

Adopting Course Materials

It is important to note that the bookstore will continue to carry non-textbook course materials such as: calculators, safety googles, nursing scrubs (available on our website) and bar charts.

Process for Adoption Cut Off

If you need to adopt course material for your course after the adoptions have closed, please send an email to [email protected] with all the relevant information.(Course, ISBN, edition) Please keep in mind that some forms of course material might not be available for the start of the semester based on due dates.

How to Adopt Custom Course Packets

Many courses create their own course material, and we will also be able to continue doing that with our new partner. Please fill out the following form and send it to the [email protected]. The earlier the better because most items must go through copyright clearance and that could take 8 to 12 weeks.

Cengage Unlimited

Cengage Unlimited is a great tool to help reduce textbook costs for students. It is important to understand that Cengage Unlimited does not work for classes that are in the Inclusive access program. When a student purchases Cengage Unlimited, they log into the Cengage platform and access the textbooks they need via Cengage.

If you have any questions about this, reach out to the [email protected] or ask your Cengage representative if Cengage Unlimited will be compatible with your textbook/homework needs.

Setting up Inclusive Access on Canvas

To access your course materials in Canvas, you will need to enable the Canvas page to allow access. Please follow these instructions

Finally, PLEASE encourage your students to order books as early as possible.

Standard shipping methods and rates will apply and any order over $99 ships for free.
