FAQ for Students
What information do I need to make an account?

Please make an account using your @stthomas.edu email address, or a personal email address that you check daily. Please use your full name as it appears on your student ID.

What are my shipping options?

Standard shipping methods and rates will apply, please order your books promptly to be eligible for a diverse array of shipping options.

You may ship to either of our Campus Store locations (St. Paul or Minneapolis) or to a personal address of your choosing. When shipping to one of our stores, it is important to use your name as it appears on your student ID, including your middle initial. This is how our mailroom will know to notify the correct student for package arrival.

What does “Materials Available through IA program” mean?

If your course displays this message, or one similar, instead of showcasing materials, this means your materials will be available through your class Canvas page. IA materials are integrated digitally and will give you a free two-week trial period. You will need to select the opt out option to avoid being charged for these books.

What does “No materials for this course” mean?

This message appears when your professor sources materials through their own means. They may provide you with free reading through Canvas or have specific instructions in their syllabus for materials. Please speak with your professor for more information.

I opted out of my materials, why do I see a charge for materials on my student bill?

All students enrolled in classes with inclusive access materials will see a charge on their account reflecting the cost of these materials. If you opt out, these charges will be dropped before the second billing cycle. If you have paid your bill, which includes charges that need to be removed, the amount will be credited back to your account once your opt out has been confirmed.

Can I use Cengage Unlimited?

Cengage Unlimited is one flat fee for access to hundreds of textbook titles published by Cengage. If your professor has Cengage materials on the webstore or in inclusive access on Canvas, you may be interested in purchasing Cengage Unlimited.

However, Cengage Unlimited will not work for classes that have assignments and quizzes integrated into the Canvas materials. Please check with your professor to see if they host their assignments/quizzes through their Cengage materials, or if you will be able to access it without using the Inclusive Access program on Canvas.

How do I pay for books?

If you are paying out of pocket, you can use PayPal, credit, or debit. To use financial aid, please contact [email protected] for a financial voucher. The amount requested on a voucher will be reflected on your student bill. You will be able to apply your financial aid to pay for your student bill.

Please note that vouchers will NOT cover:

  1. Recommended books
  2. Shipping costs
  3. Rental charges*

*You may use a voucher to cover the cost of renting a book, however, you will be required to provide a credit/debit card along with the order. If you fail to return your rental, or you return the book with significant damage, your credit/debit card will be charged.

If there is a book on the webstore that is listed as recommended and your professor has decided that it is going to be required, please email [email protected]

Why am I being charged for my rental books?

If you do not return your rental book, the payment information you provide will be charged for the full price of the book. If you return the book with noticeable and significant damage, there is a chance you will be charged for the full price of purchasing the book. To avoid this, please take care of your books. Store them neatly in your bags and backpacks and take care not to mark them and spill on them.

If you are worried about the condition of your book, please take clear and instructive photos of your rentals as you receive them. If there is a charge to your books afterward, you will be able to compare them to how you received them.
